Team SWAT rallies to salvage tie in playoff finale

No one likes a tie; especially one in the last game of the season. But the silver lining is that Team SWAT rallied from a 6-0 deficit, including a 2-run rally in the bottom of the 7th inning to pull out a tie.

Sean C. had the game-tying RBI. Cherese R. went 1-for-4, but scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Morgan B. drove in a pair of runs, Mike C. went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Dave R. went 3-for-4 with an RBI and missed the cycle by a homerun.

Team SWAT looks to finish summer season strong

Call it Division II; call it Consolation bracket; Call it Lower Bracket; or call it 3 more games to play.

Team SWAT heads into the bottom bracket as The Best of the Rest.

It’s easy to want to blow these games off, but every victory is important.

Here’s a lesson to be learned from Olympic runner Steve Prefontaine:

The standings and playoff brackets are being put together right now.

Heading into the final week of regular season play, Team SWAT was sitting in 4th place, needing a pair of losses by Scared Hitless to sneak into the upper bracket.

Bye Week 2

Team SWAT takes break; waits for playoff opponent

ondeck

Another winning streak, another week off.

After a pair of emotional victories last week, Team SWAT seems to have found its stride.

The Softballers With Attitude established themselves as a strong defensive team. Team SWAT is averaging 11.5 runs a game and allowing just 9.5 runs a game.

Several new additions have made their mark and the veterans are taking the lead on the field and in the dugout.

Tonight’s games will determine who the team plays in the playoffs, beginning next week. We have done our part and are ready for whomever our opponent is.

milkshakewinTeam SWAT sweeps double-header

Team SWAT went high and low to win a double-header and move to 4-3 heading into the playoffs.

The Strike Force beat previously undefeated Kicking SWAT in an emotionally charged game.

The former members of Team SWAT that formed Kicking SWAT were denied a victory in the first game: Everyone contributed by getting on base, scoring a run or making a key defensive play.

The guys led the way: Mike C. went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and Sean C. went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tony J. went 2-for-2 and Eugene F. went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored.

The second game was a tougher than expected, but Friday the 13th was more than a worthy opponent.

Tony J. went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Amy G. went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Katlyn O. added a 3-run double.

The victory moves Team SWAT to over .500 for the first time this season. Team SWAT needs help to reach the Championship bracket for the playoffs.

If the Softballers With Attitiude plays in the Championship bracket, a chance for redemption awaits. If Team SWAT sends up playing for the Consolation Championship, an opportunity to better the team’s record and jell await.

Game 6 and 7 Pre-Game

GAME 6: (2-3) at Kicking SWAT (5-0)

TIME, SITE: 7:40 p.m.; Lower Peters Canyon Community Park

OUTLOOK: Kicking SWAT is the only undefeated team in the league and has rolled its opposition, averaging 17.8 runs and allowing 9.6.

KEYS TO VICTORY: Team SWAT is still learning each other and how to play together.

The keys are simple: We need to get off to a good start offensively, play solid defense and get behind one another.

We have to be patient at the plate, swing at good pitches, move the runners over and bring them in.

GAME 7: at Friday the 13th (1-4)

TIME, SITE: 8:50 p.m.; Lower Peters Canyon Community Park

OUTLOOK: Friday the 13st is tied for last place.

KEYS TO VICTORY: The second game of a double-header is always tougher because of fatigue. Friday the 13th is one of the weaker teams in the league, so we must stay strong, stay focused and put them away early.

We must force them to make mistakes in the field and take away their scoring chances.

Team SWAT sees winning streak broken

A combination of things went wrong this week: Several players missed the game, the team’s momentum was slowed by a week off and the substitutes and returning players could not find a measure of comfort.

Cherese R. and Katlyn O. led the way offensively.

An important week looms ahead.

Bye Week

Team SWAT takes break on 2-game winning streak

bye

Teams on a winning streak never want to take a game off. After a rough start to the season, Team SWAT found its stride only to have momentum temporarily stopped thanks to a bye week.

The Softballers With Attitude established themselves in their past three games, allowing just 16 runs in that stretch, while scoring 38. The team’s seasonal numbers of 52 runs scored (13 runs) and 38 runs allowed (9.5 runs) equate to the 3rd-most runs scored in the league this season and the 3rd-least runs allowed.

New additions have made their mark and the veterans are taking the lead on the field and in the dugout. And we still have yet to get the entire roster on the field.

Midway through the regular season, Team SWAT is tied for fourth place, just 1.5 games out of 1st place and 1/2 game out of second place.

Team SWAT will face the toughest part of its schedule after the bye week, with a tough game against a new team and then a double-header.

Until we take the field again in a week’s time, here’s an instructional video from slow-pitch champion Bob Woldyk, who is giving some tips on hitting by using your hands effectively in your swing.

Team SWAT builds early lead; cruises to victory

For the first time this season, Team SWAT played at Harvard Park and it played as the visitor. Both changes seemed to suit Team SWAT, as it built a 10-1 lead after 2 innings and cruised to a rather easy victory.

The victory give the Strike Force momentum heading into the bye week. The victory moved the team to an even .500 record and gives the team its second straight victory.

Every player either scored at least one run or drove a run in. Dave r. went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Katlyn O. went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stellar play at second base.

Newcomer Danielle P. went 2-for-4 and was solid in split-time at second base.

Game 4 Pre-Game Report

Game 4: (1-2) at  Flock (1-2)

TIME, SITE: 7:40 p.m.; Harvard Park, Field 7

OUTLOOK: Flock is 0-1-1 against Team SWAT. Both games last season were close. This season, Flock has scored 29 runs in three games (9.6 runs) and allowed 37 (12.3 runs). Team SWAT has scored 36 runs (12 runs) and allowed 32 (10.6 runs).  The team are tied for 5th place in the standings, just 1.5 games out of first place.

A victory keeps pace with the league leaders, but a loss will most likely put that team out of the hunt for the regular- season title.

KEYS TO VICTORY: There is still a learning curve with each other. Every player has shone individually, but we need to put it together at the plate and in the field. We have to be patient at the plate, swing at good pitches, move the runners over and bring them in.

Play with confidence. Play with emotion. Take their heart and leave them empty.
